If you’ve been researching ways to improve your health, especially for those of us with autoimmune thyroid issues, you’ve probably stumbled across a liver cleanse or two. And I’m willing to bet that most of those involve drinking crazy sounding things like Epsom salts with large amounts of olive oil and juice.
Now, if the thought of downing that drink makes you want to run the other way—you’re not alone. The good news? You absolutely don’t have to drink Epsom salts to give your liver the love it needs. In fact, I’m here to tell you there’s a kinder, gentler way to cleanse and support your body that won’t leave you feeling worse than when you started.
My Jen Twin and I have tried all sorts of crazy things like those drinks in our search to find the answers for us on our own health journey. If you’ve been frustrated and scared by the western, “conventional” system, then you know just how far some of us will go to get better and stay better against what “they” say.
“They” are all doom and gloom and just say things like “we’ll monitor and up your meds as you get older.” While we’re saying, “Nope! Not going to happen! I’m in control of ME and My Health!”
Let’s Talk About Your Liver
Hopefully, you were able to watch our masterclass, Love Your Liver last week. If you missed the class, and want to watch it, just comment below and we’ll send you the recording.
Your liver is your body’s own built-in detox center. It performs over 500 hundred processes from filtering out toxins, processing hormones, to helping with digestion—it’s doing all the things to keep you running smoothly. But when it’s juggling too much or sluggish, especially for those of us with autoimmune thyroid conditions, it can feel like everything starts to slow down.
You might notice bloating, constipation, fatigue, stubborn weight gain, and hormone imbalances that just won’t quit. So, naturally, you start thinking about ways to cleanse the liver. The problem is some of these cleanses can be pretty extreme. I mean, Epsom salts? Drinking them sounds more like a punishment than a path to better health. And many of these detoxes are only 1 day with no advice or tools to prepare before or after to keep things running smoothly.

Why Epsom Salts Aren’t the Answer
Don’t get me wrong, Epsom salts have their place—like in a nice, relaxing bath to soothe sore muscles or relax you at bedtime. But drinking them is a whole different story. When taken internally, Epsom salts (aka magnesium sulfate) can cause dehydration, mess with your electrolytes, and cause some serious digestive upset. For those of us already dealing with thyroid imbalances, this can actually make things worse by stressing our bodies even more.
If you’re dealing with things like fatigue, bloating, and stubborn weight, the last thing you need is a cleanse that leaves you feeling drained and uncomfortable. The good news is you don’t have to go down that path to support your liver.
There’s a Gentler Way to Cleanse
So, if not Epsom salts, then what? The key to a productive and successful cleanse is working with your body, not against it. You want to support your body’s natural detox processes in a way that feels nourishing and gentle.
One of the best ways to do this is by focusing on foods that love your liver. Think leafy greens, cruciferous vegetables, lemons, and healthy fats like avocado and flaxseeds. These foods are rich in antioxidants, fiber, and healthy fats that help your liver detox naturally and without stress. They also help reduce inflammation, balance your hormones, and support digestion—all things we need to feel our best.
And don’t forget to hydrate! Water plays a huge role in helping your liver flush out toxins. Plus, simple things like gentle movement—whether it’s walking, yoga, or just stretching—can help your liver do its job more effectively without needing any drastic measures.

Ditch the Fear Around Cleansing
If you’ve tried harsh or restrictive liver cleanses in the past, it’s totally understandable to feel some fear or hesitation. But the truth is, cleansing doesn’t have to be hard on your body. In fact, the best cleanses are the ones that support your liver in a way that’s gentle, kind, and sustainable.
Focus on nourishing your body instead of punishing it. You’ll start to notice real, lasting changes right as you add in the nutrients your body needs and get rid of the things weigh you down and clogging your “filter.” You’ll feel less bloated, more energized, and more in balance—all without the need for harsh ingredients like Epsom salts. And trust me, your body will thank you for it!
